I could not have asked for a better weekend with better friends. Starting off the week with isa’s arrival followed by wald and hayls coming to Perugia was too perfect–we had a great time. Having some of my best friends here with me to celebrate my 21st, I felt so grateful. Exploring, drinking, sitting in parks, eating… just plain getting silly was exactly what I needed. These girls are amazing and it was so refreshing to laugh literally all weekend. So, thank you mi cocco
I have to wonder if we all studied abroad together what trouble we would get into..
The first night-April 7-the birthday we celebrated at Luna Bar. Having my friends there combined with other Umbra students was a blast- 27 pitchers and 12 bottles of champagne in two hours- good work guys.
Thursday night I took the girls to the one and only: Dal mi’ cocco to indulge in an always wonderful meal. We laughed and exchanged stories about our abroad experiences-it was comforting to know we have all been going through somewhat of the same things while exploring different cities. Of course we delved into some more serious talk, even discussing which one of our friends would get married first. Are we really getting that old? With each salute our lips became redder and bellys full. I was so happy to show them my favorite spot and the fact that they were so appreciative made me love it that much more.
Friday night we headed to Osteria del Tempo Perso “the restaurant of lost time” for an indescribable 4 hour (seriously) meal. The restaurant is nowhere to be located on a map for tax purposes, as it is owned by one signora who prepares everything all with her own hand. When you sit down, she prepares everything upon ordering and each course is wonderfully unique, cheap, and absolutely delicious. It truly is the best ‘Italian’ experience I have had in Perugia and a dinner I will never forget.
The last night we decided to stay in and cook ourselves. Being together at the apartment was so much fun and I cannot wait to get back to Boulder where we will finally have our own places.
So..21. Do I feel any different? As the semester abroad winds down I feel well-traveled and a little more ‘cultured’. With finals just around the corner I will take my final trip this weekend to Cinque Terre–a trip I have been saving for the spring. Cinque is supposed to be one of the most beautiful places in the world and I cannot wait to culminate a great experience overlooking Italian cliffs while perched above the Mediterranean.
Enjoying some green while eating my breakfast at a local cafe with my date (erica) was the perfect way to experience amsterdam. The entire weekend was full of coffee shops, asian food, and sightseeing. Heineken museum, Van Gogh, Anne Frank Huis, RLD. It was the absolute ideal way to pre-celebrate the birthday to come.
The fact that a place like amsterdam exists on this planet makes me wonder why more cities can’t learn a little from this model city? Minus the Red Light District, amsterdam’s got its shit together.
I’ve never witnessed such a calm, eco-friendly, bike-friendly, green city. The only other place I could think would be Boulder, go figure?
APRIL 7th.- Time feels like it is moving faster than ever before. ISA comes to Perugia today and WALD & HAYLS will be here tomorrow. THE PERFECT CELEBRATION. GET LEGAL.
The plan for the evening: Luna Bar for dinner & drinks and then hitting up every bar (total of 5 or 6) in Perugia. Should be a great time.
I apologize for my lack of updates- who knew I would actually have to do schoolwork!
Finally embarking on my first amsterdam experience this April fools weekend with Erica. I predict an excellent adventuresome trip full of bikes, coffee shops, heineken, the spacecake, and a little van gogh. Stay tuned for pictures.
One week marker to RIS AND HAYLS arrival in Perugia ay ay ay & the legalization that will be my 21st birthday.
Im back, Im safe, Im alive-No longer living out of a budget airline-sized suitcase. I am having difficulty trying to recap this past week. After venturing to three countries, three uniquely different cities, I can see why some say traveling is ADDICTING. Seeing Steph and Ris was MUCH needed and THANK YOU again for showing me around your cities
Beyond everything that went down during this cherished break- I can officially declare that Prague is one of my new favorite cities and I hope to travel back to the Czech republic post-college. Great currency, castles, rivers, clubs, people, food, what else more could one ask for? The city had this magical aura about it—granted weed is legal—there was just something so, for lack of a better word, “cool” about the city. About the weed, it wasn’t that you could just easily find weed, it was the fact that the Czech public sincerely did not mind where you smoked-be it at a restaurant, bar, metro, you name it. I felt insanely free wandering the streets aimlessly and running into incredible architecture along the way. The chilly fresh air combined with sporadic snowfall enhanced my entire fairytale sort of experience. Not to mention, seeing Jesse was an excellent reminder of how enjoyable seeing a familiar face can be. We had a great time and it was a stroke of fun luck that Gary was also visiting! I really enjoyed going to the Salvador Dali exhibit, which conveniently just opened, and seeing all of his sketches-they are something else. Also the old Jewish quarter was a remarkable site and I wish I had more time to go inside the historic synagogues. Overall, it was a trip for the books. The boys were tons of fun and have a great set-up going on in Prague, thanks for the jam sessions jazz-.
Post-break: full speed ahead. I have a feeling that time is about to fly. With weekends solidly booked and the anticipation of friends arrivals (RIS & HAYLS), 21’st birthday, and final trips it’s hard to believe how quickly this experience goes by. A trip of a lifetime, like the one from last week, is already fading into the past and my eyes are set on the future. I think we could all use a little more time. Amsterdam anyone?
